Sunriver Stars presents inaugural debut of “Children’s Playwright Contest”

Sunriver Stars Community Theater will open the 2025 season with it’s inaugural debut of
“Children’s Playwright Contest” with the top 3 winning playwrights being showcased at 6 p.m.
March 21st at The Door Three Rivers, 56885 Enterprise Dr.
The contest is open to youth of Bend, Sunriver, and La Pine 10-19 years of age. Original scripts
must be submitted in script format. Playwrights will be judged based off of creativity, originality,
and clarity of the story. Characters should be limited to 10 and should not exceed 15 minutes
in length.
All genres will be accepted and they may be original adaptions of existing literature. Scripts
must tell a story and contain a beginning, a middle, and an ending. Contest opens on February
1st and scripts are due by February 28th. Scripts can be emailed to Megan Steffens

All playwright contestants will be honored at “The Shining Stars Playwright Breakfast” at The
Sunriver Lodge on March 15th where the 3 winners will be announced. Top 3 playwrights will
be awarded with $50, and a trophy, and have their plays showcased.
Winners may choose to direct their own plays or choose to have SSCT Historian, Megan
Steffens, direct their shows. Playwrights may be cast in their own plays and/or each others
plays, as well as bring in friends to perform.
SSCT will provide set pieces, props, and costumes to align with the vision of the young
playwrights.
Rehearsals for winning playwrights will be held at The Door Three Rivers March 17th-21st

Synopsis: The Sykes family has rented a cabin for a week holiday up at Mt. Hood. Sammy Sykes meets a new friend who is also vacationing there. Everything seems normal…until it doesn’t!
