A 100% volunteer-driven 501(c)(3) nonprofit bringing quality entertainment and arts education to Central Oregon since 2012.
Sunriver Stars Community Theater was founded in 2012 by Victoria Kristy-Zalewski — a former kindergarten and art teacher with 25 years of classroom experience and a directing career dating back to 1970. What began as a small community effort has grown into a beloved institution with over 40 main stage productions.
We are completely volunteer-based, from the actors and backstage crew to every member of our board. Our mission is to provide quality entertainment and performing arts education to Deschutes County and its surrounding communities — and to make sure theater is accessible to everyone.
Anyone interested in performing, volunteering, or serving on the board is welcome. We give anyone the opportunity to shine — regardless of experience, background, or ability to pay.
One of the most rewarding aspects of performing in a Sunriver Stars play is seeing the cast and crew come together at the start of practice. Many don’t even know each other. But as we progress through rehearsals, we become a tight knit group with everyone pitching in and supporting each other. In the end we put on this amazing show and accomplished more than we thought we could, and made new friends.

Our Impact Statement
Since 2012 the Sunriver Stars Community Theater has significantly impacted the local Sunriver-La Pine area in fostering a sense of community by recruiting a diverse group of people from the entire south Deschutes County area. We have and continue to provide a platform for self-expression and creativity, promote social interaction and developing life skills, and offer accessible artistic engagement for people of all ages and backgrounds, ultimately enriching the cultural fabric of our community.
Social Connection
Bringing people together from diverse backgrounds and all ages to collaborate on productions, creating a sense of belonging and shared experience. We become a Sunriver Stars family as we become friends.
Creative Outlet
Encouraging would-be performers in a welcoming atmosphere and allowing individuals to explore their artistic talents through acting, directing, design, and technical aspects of theater. We have had over 100 different adults and children perform.
Personal Development
Building confidence, communication skills, teamwork, problem-solving abilities, and discipline through participation in theater productions.
Youth Development
Providing a safe space for young people to develop creativity, self-esteem, and leadership skills, especially in the free Children's Summer Drama Camp.
Cultural Awareness
Working together we present stories and perspectives from diverse cultures, promoting understanding and empathy.
Community Engagement
Actively involving residents in the creation of theater productions, contributing to a vibrant community atmosphere.
Economic Impact
Supporting local businesses through program advertising, equipment and supply purchases, venue rentals, and related spending.
